Falconry Tips to Keep in Mind for Beginners

If you are considering taking up the art of falconry in a serious way, or have already started with falconry quite recently, then you need to know some important things about training a bird-of-prey. Here are some falconry tips to keep in mind for beginners, to introduce new falconers to this art of falconry:

  • Before one begins. One should be hasty with making a decision of taking up falconry as it is a hobby that needs a lot of dedication and time. Before one commits themselves to the art of falconry, it is important to first get all the essential falconry equipment such as falconry bags, glove, perch, etc. More importantly, it is important that you realize the fact that you would be dealing with a living creature, a wild creature, even if your bird-of-prey may be bred domestically. You would be required to have this bird fly; a bird-of-prey isn’t a pet bird and it definitely isn’t a fashion accessory.

  •  Accommodation. Beginners need to make sure that they prepare an appropriate accommodation, and get essential falconry equipment and gear such as gloves, falconry perch, etc. An aviary wouldn’t be constituted as the appropriate accommodation for a bird-of-prey. Falconry birds require mews which are enclosed fully during the initial period of training, and later on for nights only. Once your hawk is trained, atleast partially, it’d be needing a well-fenced weathering shelter which would be great for times when the weather gets too warm or too bad, and also to keep dogs or foxes out.
